Summary

This role is located on the Houston Ship Channel and serves as a critical electrical reliability position supporting a large, complex chemical manufacturing facility. The Electrical Reliability Engineer will be responsible for the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of electrical and instrumentation systems across key production units. This individual will serve as the site's electrical subject matter expert, leading troubleshooting efforts, root cause investigations, reliability improvements, and electrical scope execution for major turnaround activities.

The position offers significant visibility within the organization and requires close collaboration with operations, maintenance, engineering, planners, and contractors. A major focus of the role will be ownership of the electrical scope for an upcoming 2027 turnaround, including outage planning, work package review, contractor management, and execution support.

This is a hands-on role for an engineer who thrives in a fast-paced manufacturing environment, enjoys solving complex technical problems, and wants to make a direct impact on plant reliability, production performance, and long-term asset integrity.

Description

  • Provide day-to-day reliability support for electrical and instrumentation systems across critical operating units.
  • Troubleshoot issues involving power distribution systems, medium-voltage equipment, motors, and associated electrical infrastructure.
  • Lead root cause failure analyses (RCFA) and implement corrective actions to prevent recurring equipment failures.
  • Serve as the primary electrical technical resource during plant upsets, equipment failures, and complex troubleshooting events.
  • Drive reliability improvement initiatives focused on equipment availability, maintenance effectiveness, operational excellence, and cost reduction.
  • Review and validate maintenance and turnaround work packages for technical accuracy, safety, and completeness.
  • Support long-term reliability strategies and maintenance optimization programs.
  • Lead planning and execution of electrical scope activities for major turnaround events, including outage planning and contractor oversight.
  • Coordinate closely with operations, maintenance, planners, and project teams to ensure successful execution of electrical work.
  • Track and manage action items, incident investigations, and reliability improvement opportunities.
  • Mentor junior engineers and provide technical guidance to electrical and instrumentation maintenance personnel.
  • Deliver training and knowledge transfer to operations and maintenance teams.
  • Utilize SAP for maintenance management, work order tracking, and reliability activities.
  • Support reporting and performance tracking initiatives utilizing SharePoint, Outlook, and Power BI tools.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related engineering discipline.
  • Experience supporting electrical systems in a chemical, petrochemical, refining, polymers, or other continuous-process manufacturing environment.
  • Strong knowledge of power distribution systems, medium-voltage equipment, motors, motor control systems, and electrical reliability practices.
  • Demonstrated experience leading equipment troubleshooting and root cause failure investigations.
  • Experience supporting or leading turnaround, shutdown, or outage planning and execution activities.
  • Knowledge of preventive and predictive maintenance programs for electrical equipment.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills with operations, maintenance, engineering, and contractor teams.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and a high volume of action items in a dynamic manufacturing environment.
  • Experience utilizing SAP or similar CMMS platforms.
  • Familiarity with Power BI is preferred.
  • Willingness to work onsite in Pasadena, TX and participate in an on-call rotation after onboarding.
  • Proven ability to take ownership of technical issues and drive solutions through implementation.
