Summary

Our client is seeking an Environmental Manager to lead environmental compliance programs across multiple manufacturing locations. This role is based at a large industrial facility in a non-coastal Alabama location and reports directly to the VP of HSE. The Environmental Manager will lead a team of five environmental professionals and serve as the primary subject matter expert for environmental permitting, regulatory compliance, agency interactions, and environmental stewardship initiatives. Description

  • Lead environmental compliance programs for air, water, waste, and remediation activities across company operations.
  • Maintain compliance with Title V air permits, NPDES wastewater and stormwater permits, RCRA hazardous waste regulations, SPCC plans, and other applicable environmental requirements.
  • Manage permit renewals, modifications, and new permit applications with federal and state regulatory agencies.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for environmental inspections, audits, agency inquiries, and enforcement matters.
  • Prepare, review, and submit required environmental reports including emissions inventories, DMRs, TRI/Form R reports, hazardous waste reports, and BWON documentation.
  • Oversee air compliance programs including LDAR, fenceline monitoring, and CEMS/PEMS systems.
  • Manage wastewater monitoring, stormwater compliance programs, hazardous waste management activities, and waste disposal vendor relationships.
  • Lead environmental incident response efforts, including regulatory notifications, investigations, corrective actions, and root cause analyses.
  • Oversee soil and groundwater remediation programs and implement preventive measures following environmental events.
  • Conduct environmental audits and drive continuous improvement initiatives related to emissions reduction, waste minimization, and water quality performance.
  • Support corporate sustainability initiatives and environmental performance reporting.
  • Supervise, mentor, and develop a team of environmental professionals while ensuring all compliance obligations are completed accurately and on time.
  • Partner closely with Operations, Maintenance, Engineering, and site leadership teams to ensure environmental responsibilities are effectively managed.
  • Manage environmental budgets and support capital projects involving environmental compliance improvements.
  • Maintain active relationships with regulatory agencies, industry organizations, and environmental consultants while monitoring emerging regulatory developments.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Environmental Science, Chemistry, or another technical discipline.
  • Demonstrated experience managing environmental compliance programs within a refinery, petrochemical, chemical manufacturing, or other regulated industrial facility.
  • Strong working knowledge of the Clean Air Act (CAA), Clean Water Act (CWA), RCRA, EPCRA, and SPCC regulations.
  • Proven experience managing Title V air permits and NPDES permits.
  • Experience serving as the primary liaison with regulatory agencies and managing inspections and audits.
  • Knowledge of air compliance programs including LDAR, CEMS/PEMS, emissions reporting, and permitting.
  • Experience with hazardous waste management, wastewater compliance, stormwater programs, and environmental reporting requirements.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to prepare technical reports, permit applications, and regulatory correspondence.
  • Ability to interpret environmental regulations and assess applicability to plant operations.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and standard business software applications.
  • Prior leadership experience supervising environmental professionals preferred.
